Battery Life and Charging
Before using the SP-788 Bluetooth stereo headphones, you must fully charge them. It took about 2 hours to fully charge the headphones; which is about average for most Bluetooth stereo headphones. Charging the headphones can be done by either using the supplied USB cable, which connects to your computer, or via the AC adapter.
The YidSun SP-788 Bluetooth stereo headphones use Lithium-polymer batteries boasting continuous music usage of approximately 6 hours, 8 hours of talk time, and a standby time of 100 hours.
Pairing
To pair the SP-788 Bluetooth stereo headphones, hold down the multifunction button until the LED starts to alternately flash blue and red. This lets you know that the headphones are now in pairing mode. Then, using your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone or computer, search for Bluetooth devices in the area. Once you find the YidSun SP-788, you’ll be asked for the password, which is 0000. You should now be connected.
I tested the pairing process of the SP-788 with a few different Bluetooth devices; numerous Bluetooth cell phones and a Bluetooth enabled PC. I did not run into any complications when pairing the headphones.
Style and Design
The SP-788 Bluetooth stereo headphones have a simple but contemporary design. Both sides of the headphones show off the YidSun logo and YidSun name. While this may be a good branding tactic, it does little to help with the aesthetic appeal of the headphones. Most US consumers won’t recognize the YidSun name and if you are concerned with having a name brand product, the SP-788 is most likely not going to satisfy that concern.
The headphones' earpieces are connected by a cord that is meant to be worn behind the head. Its flexible design makes it easy to wear and easy to carry around with you. The cord looks short but in reality it is the perfect length for most head sizes.
The SP-788 has a 5-button design; Multifunction, volume up, volume down, track forward, and track reverse buttons. Getting the feel for the placement and sensitivity of the buttons took a little time to get used to. For example, when trying to increase the volume, I had to press down fairly hard to get results.
Comfort
The SP-788 stereo headphones are one of the lightest pair of Bluetooth stereo headphones I have come across. They weigh approximately 30 grams and sit well on your head.
Included with the SP-788 are two different size ear gels; large and small. Getting the ear gels to sit in your ear comfortably takes some time to get used to. This is probably due to fact that the ear gels sit inside your ear at an angle. However, to my surprise, the headphones really didn’t budge when I was wearing them. After about an hour, I had to take the headphones off because of some discomfort to my ears.
YidSun needs to work on making the SP-788 Bluetooth stereo headphones more comfortable for extended periods of use.
Sound Quality
The YidSun SP-788 Bluetooth stereo headphones provide a pleasant listening experience. Nevertheless, there really isn't much that sets these headphones apart from the competition. Bass and treble levels were sufficient but nothing that will knock your socks off. I was able to enjoy music from artists such as U2, Eric Clapton, and Audioslave with no major complaints. However, my biggest complaint is that the maximum volume level was not sufficient to my liking.
Conclusion
The YidSun SP-788 Bluetooth stereo headphones are a nicely designed pair of stereo headphones. They offer basic functionality but do nothing to separate themselves from their competition. With good sound quality and an extremely lightweight design, the SP-788 headphones do everything YidSun claims. However, in an extremely competitive market, YidSun needs to come up with some type of an edge in order to establish their reputation. Unless the YidSun SP-788 headphones are sold at a major discount, I seriously doubt American consumers will consider them over other stereo headphones like those offered by Motorola, Plantronics, and other big name companies.
