Battery Life and Charging
Out of the box, you must first charge the Lubix Stereo Bluetooth headset. Lubix gives you two different charging methods. You can connect the headset to a computer or an AC outlet using the USB cable provided. It took about 2 hours to fully charge the stereo headset. When the red LED light turns blue, the headset is fully charged and ready to use.
When the battery level is low, the LCD screen will show, “LOW BATT,” also accompanied by a warning sound. I was able to listen to music continuously for about 8.5 hours before I started to receive the warning message.
Pairing
I tested the Lubix UBHS-LC1 Stereo Bluetooth Headset with the LG Chocolate and my Bluetooth computer. With other Bluetooth devices, the process of Bluetooth pairing is somewhat cumbersome and is made more difficult than it should be. Because of the OLED display, pairing the Lubix Stereo Bluetooth headset is as simple as can be. With the headset turned off, press and hold the Call button and turn the headset back on. The word “Pairing” will display on the LCD to allow you to know the headset is in pairing mode. Just a simple feature such as showing the word, “Pairing” will go a huge way with novice Bluetooth users.
Once the stereo headset is in pairing mode, use your phone or other Bluetooth device to search for Bluetooth devices and select, “Lubix Stereo Headset.” The password is “0000.” The LCD screen will now indicate a successful pairing process by showing a “Connected” message.
Style, Design, and Comfort
One of the more impressive features of the headset is its unique design. When not in use, you can wear the LC1 around the neck as a pendant. The two magnetically-joined earpieces easily separate, allowing you to make/take a phone call or listen to your music. When I first experienced this feature, I was very impressed with how innovative this idea was. It is certainly a functional feature.
However, when the two earpieces are separated and worn on your ears, the functionality takes a back seat to style. When worn, it looks like you are wearing two Bluetooth headsets. Everyone has their own opinion on how Bluetooth headsets make people look. Personally, I am not a huge fan. Wearing one Bluetooth headset at a time is enough for me. In the comfort of my own home, I have no problem wearing this headset. In public, well, that’s another story. If I was Lubix, I would spend some time redesigning the look of the headset.
The LC1 Stereo Bluetooth Headset does away with earhooks that many Bluetooth headsets usually use. Instead, you are provided with a large and small set of soft, flexible rubber earpieces that fit directly in your ear. To my surprise, the LC1 while being worn in the ear was quite comfortable. Each user will have to test each the different size earpieces to find the most comfortable fit. However, heavy movement caused the earpieces to fall out of my ear.
Functionality
The Lubix UBHS-LC1 Stereo Bluetooth headset provide its users a variety of functions and features. You are able to listen to stereo music as well as take phone calls. As a normal Bluetooth headset, the Lubix UBHS-LC1 is just adequate. In a noisy environment, it was difficult to hold a phone conversation. I wouldn't recommend using the Lubix Stereo Bluetooth headset as your primary Bluetooth headset.
The controls on the headset are simple to use. The jog wheels are in great positions which make them easy to find and use while the headset is on your ear.
One of the features I consider to be an added bonus is the OLED LCD display. The LCD screen displays information such as Caller ID, volume level and 3D sound mode. It truly simplifies the process of using the stereo headset. For instance, on other Bluetooth stereo headsets, changing functions is determined by the number of beeps you hear. This can certainly be confusing and frustrating to some users. With the Lubix stereo Bluetooth headset, the LCD display shows you what mode you are in such as pairing, volume level control, 3D sound mode, etc.
Sound Quality
The sound quality of the Lubix Stereo Bluetooth headset is excellent. Streaming music from my LG Chocolate Bluetooth cell phone and Bluetooth computer sounded great on this stereo headset. It is by far one of the best sounding stereo Bluetooth headsets I have tested to date.
What makes the Lubix UBHS-LC1 Stereo Bluetooth headset unique are the 5 different types of 3D sound effects. Depending on the style of music you are listening to, each sound effect delivers a unique sound, which adds immensely to the listening experience.
Types of 3D Sound Effects
- Normal – no 3D sound effect added
- XOME - takes distractible sound away from ears and head when using headphones
- LIVE – simulates the effect of a live performance
- WIDE – widely spread main vocal and center placed instruments by providing a panoramic 3D audio image
- MEX – provides wide stereo sound image and also enhances low-frequency sound to provide rich and deep bass tones
Switching between each setting is performed by pressing the Call button. Each audiophile will have their own preference but I personally enjoyed the MEX effect the most.
Range
I was able to get a Bluetooth range of about 27ft of the advertised 33ft before I would lose connection.
Conclusion
In terms of sound quality, functionality, and innovativeness, the Lubix UBHS-LC1 Stereo Bluetooth headset is definitely a Bluetooth stereo headset I recommend. In terms of style, the headset can definitely use a re-design. For a price around $79.99, the Lubix LC1 is a good stereo Bluetooth headset to use in the comfort of your own home. Unfortunately, most of society is image conscious and you must decide if the headset suits your style. For me, it does not. However, I can’t reiterate enough how impressive all other aspects of the Lubix stereo headset actually are.
Pros
- Impressive sound quality
- LCD Display
- 5 3D sound effects
- Comfortable to wear
Cons
- Not aesthetically pleasing when worn on ears
- Adequate phone call quality
