Mobile Group Conferencing on the Fly

CallPodCallpod is an exciting, innovative and cutting edge new Bluetooth application. When we first heard of Callpod and its capabilities, we knew this was a product that should and will make a difference in the way we communicate in the near future. Callpod was recently featured in the official Bluetooth marketing newsletter as the most innovative Bluetooth application this month.

So what is Callpod?

Callpod Technology is an audio sharing platform designed for mobile handsets, PDAs, MP3 players and notebook computers that allows multiple users, connecting with Bluetooth enabled headsets, to conduct conference calls or simply share mobile content anywhere. So, instead of your service provider setting up a conference call, Callpod acts as the conference calling hub. You can share music, news, video-on-demand or phone calls on the fly in full duplex with no voice cancellation. You can use it at home, at work, at the beach, on the golf course or even in the back of a taxi.

Full duplex refers to the transmission of data in two directions simultaneously. A telephone is full duplex because both parties can talk at once. A walkie-talkie is half duplex because only one party can transmit at a time.

Many service providers offer "free" conference calling, however there is a catch. The only thing that is free is the initial coference call connection, but once connected, you have to pay twice the airtime for each of the two calls you are connecting together. With Callpod, these extra costs will be eliminated.

The current Callpod reference design will allow up to 5 Bluetooth enabled headsets to join in on a conference call over a mobile phone or PC. CallPod features Bluetooth version 2.0 + EDR, supports HFP 1.5, and allows for seven hours of talk time.

Callpod technology even supports VoIP applications using the included USB adapter. You can now turn your 1-to-1 VoIP communication into group conferencing.

Currently, Callpod is pursuing licensing transactions with top OEMs, either to embed the technology directly into the product or to be used as a stand alone accessory.

ChargePodCallpod also has a partner accessory, the Chargepod. Chargepod is a multi-port accessory that allows users to charge multiple handsets, headsets, PDAs, and the Callpod. It powers six devices regardless of manufacturer or model by utilizing voltage regulator technology and interchangeable power adapters.
