PLANTRONICS VOYAGER 510 BLUETOOTH HEADSET REVIEW

Plantronics Voyager 510 Bluetooth HeadsetBehind Plantronics Inc.'s Voyager 510 Bluetooth Headset is the California-based company's 44 years of experience developing headsets focused on sound quality, comfort and ease of use.

Plantronics, which is widely known today for freeing the hands of communicating office workers, first reached widespread acclaim when one of its headsets carried Neil Armstrong's words, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind," from the moon back to Earth in 1969.

Plantronics was also the first headset maker to join The Bluetooth Special Interest Group, which oversees the development of Bluetooth standards, as member 20. Now, there are thousands of members, including BlueTomorrow.com’s parent company.

With its Voyager 510, Plantronics introduces a product that at least meets, if not exceeds, BlueTomorrow.com's expectations for a mobile headset from the company. By itself the headset can be paired with virtually any mobile phone. With a special Bluetooth Desktop Adapter known as the Voyager 500, the headset can also be used interchangeably with an office telephone.

In our tests, we found the sound quality experienced by both the Voyager 510 Bluetooth Headset user and the person on the other end of the phone superior to most other headsets. The Voyager 510's noise-canceling microphone is especially useful for headset users on the go since most background noise just doesn't make it through to the other end.

The headset's advertised 33-foot range checks out, as does its six-hour talk time. But it was difficult for us to gauge whether the headset would have lasted the advertised 100 hours in standby mode - we just didn't go that long without using the Voyager 510 during our review.

The headset is relatively large, and can be cumbersome to put on the ear quickly when it is not being worn. However, it is light at 14 grams (about half an ounce) and extremely comfortable to wear.

The Voyager 510 is worth the suggested retail price of $99.95 - BlueTomorrow.com recommends it highly - and consumers can get the headset for a steal ($47.99) at Amazon.com.

Though BlueTomorrow.com didn't get a chance to review the Voyager 500 Bluetooth Desktop Adapter, which is sold separately and can be used with the Voyager 510 Bluetooth Headset, consumers can Buy it at Amazon.com.
