Pairing
We tested the Bluespoon AX2 with the Motorola E815 Bluetooth cell phone. Pairing is as simple as any other Bluetooth headset. After the headset is turned on, press and hold the TALK button down until RED and BLUE indicator lights begin to flash. The Bluespoon AX2 will then be in pairing mode for 2 minutes. Go to your cell phone's Bluetooth setting and search for the headset. When the search is complete, the headset will appear as "Bluespoon AX2" on your cell phone screen.
The AX2 can also pair with up to 8 devices. If paired with more than one device, the Bluespoon AX2 will connect with the last connected device.
Functions
The headset has the familiar 3 button setup; the talk button, volume up, and volume down. The talk button (center) answers and ends calls, and the volume buttons obviously adjust the volume. To mute the headset, just press and hold both volume buttons. While the microphone is muted, two beeps will be heard every 2 seconds.
The Bluespoon AX2 also features voice dialing if your cell phone supports voice dialing. Just press the TALK button and the headset will request a voice dial.
Other features include the ability to handle call waiting, re-dial, and you even have the option to reject phone calls directly from the headset.
Sound Quality
After reading other website's reviews on the Bluespoon AX2, we were expecting the sound quality to be relatively good. However, sound quality was somewhat poor when paired with the Motorola E815 cell phone.
With my speakerphone on, I had my partner call me. Without saying anything, screeching noises was heard coming from the phone. Eventually, it calmed down and I was able to hear my partner talk. This was not a good sign.
I also called my home and had a conversation with my mother. She kept complaining that that there was a terrible echo with static, and could hardly understand me. This is not the first time someone has complained about these problems.
However, while driving in my car, I was able to leave a voicemail at my work and the message came in remarkably clear. It seems like the Bluespoon AX2 does not eliminate any background noise, and if you are in motion, sound quality dips.
Range
The range of the Bluespoon AX2 is decent. We were able to get clear reception at a distance of 15 feet away from the phone. Any further away, the sound quality decreased dramatically
Conclusion
We see a lot of potential in the Nextlink Bluespoon series of Bluetooth headsets. With an incredible design, the Bluespoon AX2 will certainly wow most consumers. If you are just looking to impress your friends with the style of the headset, the Bluespoon AX2 is for you. If you are more concerned with sound quality, which should be your top priority, we can't recommend this headset due to the constant echo and static in the background.
Once Nextlink adds background cancellation similar to Gennum's nXZEN Plus, the Bluespoon Bluetooth headsets will be some of the best Bluetooth headsets on the market.
You can purchase the Nextlink Bluespoon AX2 at Amazon for $49.99.
