Installation and Getting Started
Car Receiver Kit
Installing the Scosche iPod Car Transmitter & Receiver Kit (IPBCK) is just like installing a CD changer or wired FM modulator. So, if you’re uncomfortable with removing your stereo head unit, then you should probably have someone professionally install it.
First, you have to pull out your stereo head unit in order to find a place behind the stereo to mount (Velcro included) the Bluetooth receiver. Then, using the RCA cable, you simply plug the left and right RCA outputs on the Bluetooth receiver to the corresponding auxiliary inputs on your car stereo (Note: some car stereos don’t support RCA input but are CD changer compatible, so an additional auxiliary input adapter may be required - you should consult with your stereo’s manufacturer before buying the IPBCK).
After calling Scosche’s Technical Help line, I found out my particular Pioneer car stereo required one of these adapters. The Scosche technician told me exactly what adapter I needed to buy and where I could get it: a P bus (11 Pin) auxiliary input adapter, which I was able to buy at Best Buy for around $30.
Once I had everything I needed, I used the RCA cable to connect the Bluetooth receiver’s RCA outputs to the P bus adapter and then plugged the P bus adapter into the 11 Pin auxiliary input on my stereo head unit. Finally, I made sure the Bluetooth receiver was powered and then replaced my stereo into the dashboard.
Home Receiver Kit
Installing the additional Scosche Bluetooth Receiver Kit (UBR) to my home stereo system was a breeze and a hundred times easier than the car installation. I installed it with my Yamaha stereo receiver.
First, I placed the Bluetooth receiver in the stand, then I plugged the home power supply into an outlet and connected the power cable into the back of the receiver (Note: the power cable has a twist lock which was very difficult to configure and often caused problems with powering the receiver).
Next, I used the RCA cable (Same as the one that came with the IPBCK) to connect the Bluetooth receiver’s left and right RCA outputs to the corresponding auxiliary inputs in the back of my stereo receiver. Then, I switched on the Bluetooth receiver and made sure the blue LED was flashing. Finally, I turned my stereo receiver to the corresponding auxiliary output.
iPod Transmitter
The iPod Car Kit (IPBCK) includes specific cradles which will work with all iPods, including the Video and Nano. The cradle enables the transmitter to attach to the back of your iPod, and its 3.5mm cable plugs directly into the headphone port. In order to turn it on you have to hold down the power button for about three seconds until the blue LED begins flashing.
Before you’re able to listen to music, you have to pair the transmitter and receiver in order to establish a connection between the two. The pairing process is rather simple and the instructions are explained very clearly in the manual. Pairing occurs automatically when you power both devices, but it does take a couple minutes the 1st time. After the initial pairing, the average pairing time is about two seconds. When the devices are in pairing mode the blue LEDs on both devices will flash quickly, once paired, both blue LEDs will remain solid. After you pair the devices, you’re able to instantly transmit music from your iPod to both your car and home stereos.
