The Remote

Logitech Wireless DJ RemoteThe most impressive part of this system is the Wireless DJ Remote. For starters, it features an ultra-modern design that gives this remote a stellar "Wow" factor, impressing all who see it. The black and silver casing, which includes a removable, rechargeable lithium-ion battery, is thin and lightweight and is about the size of a standard television remote.

A center scroll wheel and Enter button control the attractive, blue backlit LCD screen making it easy to browse and modify audio on the fly without a confusing mass of buttons to get in the way. The remote does have a few other controls, which include: previous track, play/pause, next track, Home and Back buttons. Finally, below the scroll wheel are volume and mute controls.

An active playlist feature called the DJ List lets you add songs to the queue using a dedicated "DJ List Add" button—all without stopping the music. This feature really comes in handy during parties. The Wireless DJ Music System was a hit at several of our get-togethers. We were able to pass the remote around, allowing our guests to contribute to the music selection.

Recharging the Wireless DJ Remote is as simple as a cordless phone. A docking cradle functions as both audio receiver and recharging device. Docking the remote in its upright position charges it when not in use.

Note: We haven’t completed testing the battery life of the Wireless DJ Remote. Please revisit this review in the future for possible updates.

The only thing that wasn't so user friendly on the remote was the inability to search, and scrolling through thousands of songs alphabetically can become a bit irritating. Logitech stated that they are working on a patch for this. There is also no loop function so scrolling back from Z is not an option. My recommendation is to have an organized music file system set up. Play with creating folders and organizing your library to find the most efficient way for browsing songs.

The Software

The StreamPoint software included with this device aggregates your audio content and allows browsing by the remote. This aggregation takes audio from a variety of sources and compiles it into a unified audio library that fits into the palm of your hand.

Logitech StreamPoint

Sources include:

  • File formats of MP3, AAC, WMA, including downloads from iTunes, Rhapsody, Napster, AOL Music and Yahoo Music Unlimited
  • Playlists in iTunes, Windows Media Player and Musicmatch
  • Internet radio presets in iTunes and Windows Media Player
  • Podcasts in iTunes
  • Files in WMA format downloaded from unlimited subscription services such as Rhapsody To Go.

Using the system's PC Control mode, you can stream any content from your PC or Internet to the speaker system and use the remote for basic volume and playback controls. This means that Internet radio stations such as Pandora or Accuradio can be run through the Wireless DJ Music System.

Though the software does a great job of managing files, it does take an ample amount of memory to run. So make sure you have at least the recommended system requirements that include 1GB of RAM to avoid problems such as slow loading and computer freeze.

Performance and Sound

The Logitech Music Anywhere™ wireless technology uses the Class I Bluetooth 1.2 Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP). This system offers a longer range than other Wi-Fi and has distinct advantages that come with the Bluetooth reputation.

Set up is easy and works right out of the box and no wireless network is needed. Because the Bluetooth technology accesses the audio directly from the computer, problems with encrypting and transmitting certain audio files are overcome.

Using Bluetooth technology, the Wireless DJ Music System offers superior sound with reduced noise and interference. Little to no difference in audio quality is noticed when comparing direct computer input side by side with the wireless system.
