Plantronics Voyager 520 Bluetooth HeadsetThe Plantronics Voyager 520 Bluetooth Headset, one of several headsets in Plantronics’ Voyager Series, is the follow-up to the Voyager 510. The Voyager 520 looks dramatically different from its predecessor- it’s an ear-in headset instead of over the ear- but, it’s still an adequate headset with an improved design and decent performance. The Plantronics Voyager 520 is reasonably priced at $99.95, below the average for a comparable quality headset.

The Plantronics Voyager 520 Bluetooth headset has a sleek, ultramodern design which looks great and offers unparalleled comfort. The Voyager 520 has a simple tear-drop Bluetooth headset design, it is long and narrow, measuring about 2.5x0.7x0.5 inches and weighing close to 0.63 ounces.

But the design is not the important thing, its performance that counts. And that is where the Plantronics Voyager is touch and go. With my LG VX8100 from Verizon, quality was subpar, voice quality was distorted and it sounded as if I was on an out-of-date speaker phone. However, on my roommate’s LG “the V” phone from Verizon, the quality was excellent. Signal strength was strong and there was very little to no distortion from headset to phone. The Voyager 520 and I might have started off on the wrong foot, but once I figured out that the problem was not the headset, but the Bluetooth capabilities of the phone that I was pairing it with, I found the headset quality to be adequate.

The Plantronics Voyager 520 headset claims to “minimize background noise and distracting wind” however, my experience with the headset cannot support this claim. While using the headset the other end of the line hears you as if you are on an out-of-date speaker phone. The earpiece transmitted sound beautifully to me but I am afraid that the microphone could not return the favor.

I have been using the 520 for quite some time with an Apple iPhone 3GS. I may be
wrong, but it seems to me that the crackling noise started for me about the time
I went to OS V4. No matter how close the phone is to the handset, I get a
crackling noise.

It say's "Be Heard Clearly - Plantronics’ noise cancelling microphone
reduces background noise so you can be heard clearly – whenever, wherever.
"
It means NOT! POS for noise canceling.

I like the voyager 520 for its perfect fit on the ear but I am thinking of
returning it as it makes a crackling noise. The user manual itself says "for
better performance keep the phone and headset on the same side of your
body". I would say that this statement should be printed on the outside of
the box....that would help a lot of buyers make a decision before buying.

I love everything about my Voyager 520 except the crackle when I use it. Anyone
having the same issue?
