Denmark-based CellPoint Connect ApS’s Flamingo Bluetooth headset is comfortable to wear, barely noticeable when it is on the ear, produces good sound and captures its user’s voice with decent clarity. Shoppers looking for comfort above all else who can live with some sound imperfections should strongly consider this Bluetooth headset.
The Flamingo uses a unique EarClick technology, which is similar to an ear bud but split into two sections so it seems to click into the ear lobe. The device comes with six EarClick fitting sizes, which makes it simple for a user to find the size that’s right for him or her. Once the right fitting is on the headset, a user can very easily grab the device from a pocket and put it on the ear within seconds. The headset can be removed just as simply.
On the ear, the Flamingo Bluetooth headset barely feels like it is there. Yet, the headset is secure with the right EarClick fitting and will not fall out of the ear unless you brush it up against something. It does not interfere with glasses, winter hats or head movement. One downside: it can only be used on the right ear.
The Flamingo Bluetooth headset sounds good, especially for not having a noise cancellation microphone. For the user and his friend on the other end of the phone there is little to no background static or interference when the device is close to the phone it’s paired with, but there is a slight voice distortion on both ends of the phone when people speak. A crackling noise will develop with any distance from the paired phone and increase in intensity the farther they are separated. Wind and other background noise can become a nuisance.
The device comes with a foam “windbreaker” that can be attached to a lanyard and pushed over the microphone to prevent it from picking up wind when a user is walking outside. The windbreaker is not easy to use, nor is it attractive, but it does work to prevent some wind interference.
The device is relatively small and very attractive without the windbreaker and lanyard. It comes in eight colors.
The charging mechanism that comes with the device is unique and imaginative, using magnetism to hold the headset into a charging cradle. However, it is difficult to insert the device into the right place for charging, even with the magnet. Also, the cord that goes into the charging cradle uses a single-prong connection that may wear out over time.
