Based on their recent filings with the FCC, it appears Plantronics is currently in the midst of developing the successor to their original breakthrough Pulsar 590A Bluetooth Stereo Headset. Plantronics' latest application with the FCC includes a preliminary user manual and pictures of a completely new pair of stereo headphones, named the Pulsar 570 Stereo Bluetooth Headset.
The original Pulsar 590A was a breakthrough device for Bluetooth stereo music because of its ability to offer unparalleled sound quality for a pair of wireless headphones. However, the size and shape of the 590A was rather bulky and cumbersome. So, in order to address this issue, Plantronics appears to have utilized a completely different style and design with the new Pulsar 570. The Pulsar 570's design does away with the traditional over-the-head style, which uses a hard band to connect both headphones. Instead, the Pulsar 570 uses only a thin wire to connect two ultra-mini size earpieces. The headphones strike a remarkable resemblance to the i-PHONO mini Bluetooth Stereo Headphone.
Like the Pulsar 590A, the Pulsar 570 will utilize the Bluetooth Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP), which enables high fidelity stereo sound for superior audio performance. The Pulsar 570 will let you listen to stereo music on your computer or any audio player that supports streaming audio over Bluetooth (through A2DP). If your computer or audio player doesn't already support Bluetooth A2DP, then you can purchase a Bluetooth dongle (transmitter/receiver), which may either be a USB adapter for your computer or a stereo adapter that connects to the audio-out connector on your MP3 player or other audio device.
In addition to being a pair of stereo headphones, the Pulsar 570 will also allow you to seamlessly switch between phone calls and listening to music. The Pulsar 570 will let you take, make or reject any call form your mobile phone. It will also provide features like last call redial, voice dialing, call waiting and support for three-way calling.
According to the user manual included in Plantronics' FCC application, the Pulsar 570 package includes the Bluetooth Stereo Headset, a user manual, AC adapter, USB cable and a travel pouch.
At this time there is no expected release date.
