A Bluetooth “How to”: Sending Pictures From Your Phone

Motorola SLVRBluetooth technology is the perfect way to get around those fees you may encounter when sending pictures from your camera phone. Depending on your mobile phone and service provider, many Bluetooth enabled camera phones allow you to wirelessly transfer photos to other compatible phones, PCs, PDAs and other devices that support the necessary Bluetooth profiles. The best part is: it won’t cost you a penny!

The one drawback with using Bluetooth technology to send pictures, rather than sending pictures over your network, is the fact that Bluetooth technology requires both devices to be within 30 feet of one another. Nevertheless, for those times when you are only sending a picture to someone right next to you, Bluetooth technology is certainly the better alternative than paying to use your network.

Using Bluetooth technology to transfer pictures is quick and easy. In order to illustrate how simple it is, I will share with you my personal experience with it. First off, I should tell you that I use the Motorola SLVR handset on Cingular’s network, which supports image transferring via Bluetooth. It is important that you make sure your phone and wireless provider both support Bluetooth image transferring. Just because your phone is advertised to support Bluetooth technology doesn’t guarantee it can send pictures via Bluetooth.

In order to send pictures from my phone to other devices via Bluetooth, I take the following steps:

  • Access my phones picture library
  • View the picture I want to send
  • Hit the menu button
  • Select “Copy” from the menu list
  • Chose “Bluetooth”
  • Hit “Yes” when it asks me if I want to temporarily turn on Bluetooth
  • Select “Look For Devices”
  • Once my phone finds the device and lists its name, I select that device name
  • The receiving device is then prompted to accept/reject my file
  • Once accepted, the picture is sent (takes about two seconds)

That’s it, now you know how easy it is to use Bluetooth technology to send pictures from your mobile phone. After doing it a few times, you’ll have the process memorized. Before you know it, you’ll be using Bluetooth to send pictures to all your friends and family.

Sounds like your mobile phone does not support image transferring via Bluetooth.
What phone and service provider do you use?

Yes, most laptops with built-in Bluetooth technology do require you to manually
turn on the Bluetooth connection. What make and model laptop are you using?
