Bluetooth enabled iPods may be available sooner than you think. After months of speculative rumors, there is finally a substantial report that Apple is in the process of developing a wide-screen video iPod with Bluetooth technology.
According to a research note by Shaw Wu, an analyst for American Technology Research, Apple may be preparing to replace its 60-gigabyte iPod with a new Bluetooth enabled model. Wu told clients: “As we have mentioned before, our checks indicate that Apple has been working on a wide-screen video Pod (we believe now likely with Bluetooth headphone capability).”
“The most interesting development is that Apple has notified its distributors that its high-end 60GB vPod is ‘at risk’ until the end of April, meaning it could be discontinued and/or replaced. Timing is not certain to us, but we believe a new widescreen vPod with Bluetooth headphones could be ready as early as the June quarter,” Wu wrote in his note
The new iPod will allegedly feature a screen that covers the entire face of the device, and it will offer a ‘virtual click wheel’ that displays only when you touch the screen. This design is extremely similar to a patent that Apple recently filed for a tablet computer.
Remaining secretive as usual, Apple has decided not to comment as of yet, but we will keep you informed with any additional updates.
Could this be the end of the original 60 GB Video iPod?
