The market for Bluetooth technology continues to grow at a staggering rate. 2005 experienced a growth rate over 100%, and the forecast for 2006 predicts even higher profits for Bluetooth vendors.
The market research firm, ABI Research, released a new study titled: "Bluetooth: The Global Outlook". The report indicates there will be a 71% market increase for Bluetooth radios in 2006 (Around 500 million radio shipments in total). It was also concluded that there will be a market growth rate (compounded annually) of over 40% between 2004 and 2011, and equipment shipments are forecasted to be over a billion units by 2009.
Stuart Carlaw, who is a Principal Analyst of Wireless Connectivity, proclaims, "This growth will be attributed to extremely robust attach rate gains in the cellular handset market as well as a continuation of the explosive growth in the headset market."
Carlaw continues, "The importance of the stereo headset cannot be discounted. This product provides one half of a match made in heaven with music-enabled cellular handsets. We expect this type of product to drag Bluetooth into a myriad of other use cases, such as rear seat entertainment in the vehicle and the long-awaited Bluetooth MP3 player."
As 2006 progresses, you can expect a noticeable increase in the applications for Bluetooth technology. One of the more anticipated applications will occur in the video game market, which will experience a huge boost when the Sony Playstation 3 and Nintendo Revolution game consoles release later this year. Both consoles will reportedly utilize Bluetooth technology.
