Chicago Bans Cell Phone Use While Driving

The city of Chicago has just banned the use of holding a mobile phone while driving. This hands-free law will go into effect this Friday, July 8th, 2005. The fine for a driver holding a cell phone while driving is $50. It will rise to $200 dollars if the driver is involved in an accident.

Once citizens of Chicago heard this news, sales of Bluetooth headsets increased dramatically. In one store, Bluetooth Headsets sales rose from 10 units a week to around 50-60 per week. Many consumers are using the hands-free law as a reason to upgrade their cell phone to Bluetooth enabled phones.

These hand-free laws are expected to sweep the nation in the next coming months and years. Is your city next?
